The Swallowtail Butterfly

.

Swallowtail Butterflies are native to North America and are in the family
Papillionidae which includes over 550 species. These butterflies are the largest species of butterflies in North America. They can be found on citrus trees, and they also like dill, parsley and fennel garden plants.

Like all butterflies, they go through a complete metamorphosis.
They start out as an egg laid on a host plant. Then they turn into a
caterpillar. After shedding their skin for the last time, they turn
into a crysalis. In a couple of weeks an adult butterfly will emerge
from the crysalis, mate, lay eggs and the cycle starts all over again.
